17 Professions that Attract the Most Arrogant People

People exhibiting arrogance can be encountered in various spheres of life, though certain occupations tend to draw them in more than others. An internet survey recently asked, “Which profession has the most arrogant people?” Here are the top 17 responses:

Social Media Influencers

“The line between “social media influencers” and “oh, no, my hobby has personalities that tailor their content to things I’m interested in and is totally different” is pretty thin.”

“We need to start thinking of it as a profession, or kids will continue to do free labor without seeing a dime of their parents’ earnings.”

Politicians

“I am fit to rule over free human beings!”

“I work on a lot of political media, and this is what I was thinking. Many jerks. Sometimes I work with decent candidates or staffers, and it’s shocking.”

Professors

“I had this one professor that basically made it to where you had to sacrifice all of your other classes to get an A or B in his. His was a huge prereq, too, so we didn’t have much choice.”

“My spouse is in academia, and there has probably been one good person for every three arrogant ones I’ve met. And the arrogant ones are the worst educators.”

Air Conditioner Repairmen

“To be fair, the guy coming to repair your AC system in an Arizona summer might as well be Jesus Christ.”

“AZ is so dry you might be better off with a swamp cooler instead of AC since swamp coolers add moisture to the air, unlike AC.”

Pilots

“How do you know someone is a pilot? They tell you within the first 10 minutes of conversation.”

“Just had one tell me that they either get their business class meal in Guyana or the plane isn’t going anywhere.”

Bankers

“Especially investment and compliance.”

“There are many genuinely great people working in finance. Being a banker doesn’t automatically make you a narcissist. It just so happens that if you are one, banking is where you’ll fit in.”

Surgeons

“Especially cardiac surgeons. They literally are the last line between life and death for many people.. and they know it.”

“I have a cardiac surgeon in my family. He is a great guy, but he is 100% convinced he is always the smartest guy in the room. That won’t be so bad because he usually is. Still, he treats others like idiots unless you prove otherwise to him. Pretty sure he’s undiagnosed on the spectrum.”

People With Horses

“Having horses myself and inevitably knowing and meeting others, I can quite honestly say they are some of the most egotistical, stuck-up people I’ve ever met.”

“It’s not easy getting off a high horse.”

Music Industry

“Pretty much any “industry” that can take someone that came from very little, and make them a celebrity that’s a millionaire many times over, will generate a decent percentage of socially terrible people.”

“The money and gratification of being worshiped just go to some peoples’ heads in a super, super bad way, and they end up entitled and surrounded by yes-men that never smack them upside the head when they desperately need it.”

Tattoo Artists

“I’ve noticed this as well. Many tattoo artists act like they don’t want any clients or insist on tattooing their own design and not what the client requests.”

“Once, I had a few meetings with an artist for a tattoo I wanted, and he had his design in mind. When I didn’t want to pursue his idea, he denied doing the tattoo, saying, “It’s not challenging enough for me.”

HOA Presidents

You may name the entire HOA. These shouldn’t exist in their current form.”

“They all want to be in charge, and none want to lead.”

Aviation Engineers

“I worked with aviation engineers, who were really cool with me. I’d go over their drawings before and explain why something wouldn’t work or cause wasted person-hours for maintenance, and they would change the drawings. Through the beef between them and A&P mechs and Avionics, I could see where you are coming from.”

“My dad was an aviation engineer and designed many commercial aircraft and fighter jets in the air today. I knew never to question his opinion because he was always right.”

Tech

“I work at one of the FAANG companies; the arrogance here of almost everyone, top to bottom, is astounding.”

“I’ve worked briefly with the various FAANG companies (in an outside role), and Facebook is the worst of the engineers. It is a great company to work with on the business side. Still, I was amazed at some employees’ unnecessary unpleasantness.”

Tradesmen

“A good portion of tradesmen don’t consider office jobs real and will act like they are superior. I’ve also never seen an industry that prides itself on working yourself to death as if it’s some huge flex that I had to lay brick in the heat for 12 hours a day to pay bills.”

“There is no shortage of people in the trades who have this arrogant attitude that they somehow know how to do white-collar jobs better than those who do them. Never mind that they don’t know who the real decision-makers are or whose hands are tied.”

Chefs

“I’ve worked with chefs who were painfully obnoxious to work with, who could barely hold their own in the kitchen, and drank like there was no tomorrow.”

“They’ll demand you say “yes, chef” even though you don’t work in the kitchen. They’ll pick a tiny thing and blow it massively out of proportion to make the entire kitchen pick on you.”

Police Officers

“My brother is a cop, and he always jokes about how he gets away with stuff the average person wouldn’t. I love him, but my father and I are annoyed at his career choice and how it’s changing him for the worse.”

“There’s something about the low level of qualifications and the high level of authority granted that attracts certain types, but at the same time, it just cannot be cognitively healthy to work a job where people are motivated to lie to you so much.”

Receptionists or Admin Staff at Doctor Offices

“They behave as if they know more than the doctor you are paying for a check-up. Nearly all of them are arrogant as if you are doing them a favor.”

“Unfortunately, this is kind of by design. Their job is to be the “bad guy” on the doctor’s behalf, screening out unnecessary work or complications for the doctor (who is expected to be caring/understanding). This is why some of the kindest doctors always seem to have rude or curt admin staff.”
