A man in his 60s drove to the next town over so he could see a movie. He arrived early to get a seat in the back row as he was 6 ft 9 and didn’t want to ruin others’ view. When an older woman demanded his seat so she could sit next to her disabled partner, he refused.
He Was A Massive Fan
The man, aged 64, said, ‘I’m a huge film fan, and very tall at 6’9”.’
He Made A Huge Effort To Get There
When a new film came out, the man was excited. He drove 45 minutes to another town and got to the theatre early so he could sit in the back row. He didn’t want to sit anywhere in the middle row or way off to the side, mainly because his height annoyed other people in the audience.
It Was A Place For Wheelchair Users
The back row of the theater was set up with gaps between the seats for wheelchairs and strollers, and there were about seven sets of twin seats. The man placed himself in the middle set of chairs at the back of the theater.
She Disrupted The Movie
Thirty-five minutes into the movie, an older woman entered the theatre, pushing her husband in a wheelchair. Of course, they came to the back row to use the wheelchair spots, but there was no space for the woman herself. She pulled her husband into the gap right beside the man, and things got awkward.
She Wanted Him To Move
He overheard the couple bickering. The husband was trying to get his wife to leave him in the gap and find somewhere else to sit, but she ignored him and turned to the man and asked him to give up his seat so she could sit with him. Immediately, her husband said he was fine sitting alone and told his wife to find another chair again.
Her Husband Was So Embarrassed
The woman proclaimed loudly, “My husband is an invalid! I need to care for him, now please move!”
The Man Refused
The man refused her, stating that he had to sit there because of his height. Plus, he told her he couldn’t even see any other seats to move to. He suggested that they wait for the next showing. By this point, people were glaring.
She Got An Employee
The husband said again that he was fine and wouldn’t need his wife, but she was firm. She ended up leaving and returning with a theater worker who told the man to move to a seat in the first row on the far left. Immediately, the man said no. He wouldn’t be able to see the movie in that seat.
The Film Was Rolling, And They Were Distracting Everyone
The employee responded by shrugging his shoulders and telling the man that he had to move for the elderly lady. The man was frustrated and said she didn’t need to sit in his seat and could go to the front row. She said, ‘“I’m not going to sit down there!”. Finally, the woman went across the row, asking people to move. Eventually, a young high school kid moved, and the lady sat about 40 feet away from her husband.
He Felt Bad
The woman smiled smugly at the man from her faraway seat. When she came to get her husband at the end of the movie, she cursed at him and called him rude. The man said next time she should get to the film on time, so she swore and left. The man felt a little bad, but he had paid over $30, drove 90 minutes, and had his movie ruined. He asked the internet if he was the bad guy.
