A man over-burdened with household responsibilities was asked to contribute more financially after an incident with his siblings. He makes a decision that angers his parents, here’s what he had to say:
He Earned Good Money

He explained, “I am the oldest of five siblings and I am a full-time student. I also have a part-time job in my field but when I complete my degree my employer will take me on full-time. I make enough from part-time work to pay for school and put money aside.”
He Helped Out Around The House

Their parents worked full-time, so he took on various responsibilities to keep the household running smoothly. He handled grocery shopping, laundry, meal preparation, and ensured his siblings helped with household chores.
He Didn’t Share His PS5

His father worked long hours, while his mother had a demanding 9-5 job. During the Christmas break, he bought a PS5 gaming console for himself, while the rest of the family shared a PS4. He kept his PS5 in her room and didn’t share it.
His Siblings Were Annoyed

The man explained, “My parents started fielding complaints from my oldest brother about how I made so much money and I don’t share the things I buy for myself. Totally true. So they had a talk with me where they brought this up.”
But They Wanted A Lot Of Money

His parents asked him to financially contribute more, but he did some calculations and realized that if he gave his parents the requested amount, he would have around $800 left each month.
He Could Work More Hours

He realized he could work almost full-time hours with his employer by reducing a few classes the following semester.
And Move Out

He could then afford his own place, enjoying more free time and disposable income.
They Were Annoyed By His Decision

He decided to move out. The man explained, “My oldest brother has been tasked by my parents to do everything I used to do. His chores have been split up with the other three. They are all annoyed at me for moving out. My parents are upset that I left them in the lurch.”
Did He Make The Right Decision?

Despite feeling guilty about the situation, he explained that “I’m enjoying my free time. I bought myself a plant from IKEA.”
The Internet Responded

One person said, “Now they get neither chores nor rent from you. They played themselves. Enjoy your apartment!”
Another Person Commented

“You’re 23 and have the means to live on your own. Now your siblings can see why you moved out.”
