The man and his wife sat down on the couch one evening to relax after a long day at work. They turned on the TV, deciding to watch The Office together.
Wife’s Happy Remarks
Thoroughly enjoying her time with her husband watching The Office, the wife expresses an innocent thought on her mind: “I bet they’ll be making money off of this show for the rest of their life”.
Husband’s Pedantic Correction
Instead of just listening to his wife’s comment and agreeing or sharing his thoughts, the man couldn’t resist pointing out her grammatical error. “Lives”, he corrected.
A Dramatic Response
The wife immediately became upset, feeling that her husband had killed the mood with a rude comment during their relaxation time. She began to cry.

The man explained the reasoning behind his wife’s tears: “She said that I correct her grammar a lot and she finds it condescending and rude and that I am treating her like a child”.

Once he had time to think, the man decided that he should apologize to his wife, but she did not accept it. He attempted to apologize once again the next morning and decided that he would try to stop doing it in the future.

Ridden with guilt, the man decided to confess his mistakes online, but if he was searching for validation, this is not what he received. “You have done this regularly enough to make her hit a breaking point”, accused one reader. “People don’t have to speak with “proper grammar” (which is a myth), especially in their own homes. Among hundreds of negative comments directed toward the man, there was one community member who agreed with him. “I wish more adults would work on their speech. Americans/Canadians are starting to sound like idiots (myself included at times), and that sucks.”
Harsh Criticism
However, most commenters expressed their disappointment in the man: “Learn to swallow the need to always be right and always telling people they are wrong”, one person criticized. “No one likes that. Least of all the person you are supposed to love and respect more than everyone else. Completely understandable why she is not happy with you.”
An Ironic Correction
Within the online post, the man explained why he was posting, writing that he had “corrected someone’s grammar that didn’t ask me too”.
