A 23-year-old man was a devout follower of Christianity and openly encouraged others to follow his ways. Unfortunately, this would soon lead to family tension, when he expressed his discontent with his mother’s unholy lifestyle.
His Parents’ Divorce
The man explained that his family history was complicated. “My mother divorced my father when I was a teenager, but I chose to stay mostly with her because dad was not too good to us”, the man explained.
A Caring Mother
Despite his poor perception of his father, the man cherished his relationship with his mother greatly. “I am now 23, living alone and I visit her every time I get the chance. She’s always been a good friend to me”, he beamed.
A Clash of Beliefs
Despite his love for his mother, the man was deeply troubled by her lifestyle. “She’s always been into rock music, dresses in black, wears chains, skulls, you name it”, the man explained. “She likes to paint disturbing pictures with blood, gore, and profanity, which she kept from me until a few years ago.”
Her Unconventional Beliefs
During a recent visit, the man confronted his mother about her statue of Baphomet and her affiliation with Satanism. Her explanation revealed that she is an atheist who chose to “unbaptize” herself and become her own god. This revelation was shocking and hurtful to the man.
The Baptism Dilemma
However, the man explained that there was more: “I also learned that I am not baptized. I asked her why, and she told me that she wanted me to choose what to follow when I grew up instead of forcing any beliefs on me. While it makes sense, I felt betrayed and like my mom set me up to be a heretic.”
The man once again expressed his concerns to his mother about her future and his feelings of being unheard. He hoped to guide her towards what he considered a more normal lifestyle, influenced by his Christian beliefs. However, his well-intentioned advice did not sit well with his mother.
The conversation continued to spiral. “I told her that I am worried about her future and I feel unheard… but she got upset and told me to respect people’s choices”, he recounted. “I said that I only wanted her to be more normal and maybe dad left because he was also tired like me.”
A Mother’s Ultimatum
The man’s mother became furious at this comment and asked her son to leave her house, urging him to abandon his “judgmental” attitude. She insisted that he only return once he had ceased his criticism.
A Judgemental Mother
The man left his mother’s house feeling conflicted. He couldn’t help but think about how his father, despite his own flaws, never judged his choices like his mother did. He wished he could change his mother’s ways, but she had made it clear that she was not willing. Obviously the irony of this sentiment was lost on him…
Despite his strong beliefs, the man was left questioning whether his concerns were valid. He knew his mother was a kind-hearted person, so he began to consider that he may have acted unreasonably in trying to change his mother’s ways.
The man took his confusion to the internet, telling his story and seeking validation for his actions. However, the only thing he received was criticism: “Forcing someone to believe in your god isn’t helpful… ever”, one reader stated. “She allowed you to choose your path. She’s an adult and is allowed to choose hers.”
Another reader commented, “Your dad wasn’t too good to you, which is likely why your mom divorced him, so then saying he left her because of her lifestyle is obviously not true and just spiteful.”
Don’t Push Her Away
Many readers warned the man of the potential consequences of his actions. “You’re the only one being judgemental”, someone criticized. “Go get yourself baptized if you care about it so much, and leave her alone and let her make her own choices. You will only push her away by trying to force your religion on her.”
A Potential Troll
However, an interesting plot twist arose when some readers expressed their doubts surrounding the man’s story. “You’re in the wrong… for trolling and for not knowing that many Christians prefer to not baptize children, but instead require adult baptism when one can choose out of their own volition.”
