The man said, “I am 25 years old, my brother Jack is 27 years old and his wife, Jill, is 25 years old. It all started when Jack and Jill got pregnant. Their lease had almost ended and my parents invited them to stay at our house. The day they came, Jack asked me why I haven’t moved out of my room yet.”
The Problems Started Immediately
Jack then told the man that he and Jill were going to take his room and he could take the much smaller guest room. The man was taken aback by this request, and he got into an argument with his brother. His parents got involved, and despite the man’s pleas, they sided with his brother, and the man was forced to move into the guest room.
He Paid Half Of All Household Expenses
The conflict between the man, his brother and his wife continued over the following days and weeks. Jill expressed her dislike of certain cooking smells, so the man could no longer cook some of his favorite foods. The man was annoyed and explained that he contributed half of all household expenses including the mortgage.
He Was Scolded
The man explained, “I was told I must be more accommodating because she is pregnant. Like that is my problem.” Then Jill started bossing him about the house, leading to the man feeling like he was her personal assistant during the hours they were alone together in the house.
They Argued
The man was unwilling to accept this and told her as much. He explained, “She threw a temper tantrum, like always, and I again had a big fight with Jack and my parents. I was told that she had a high-risk pregnancy and was on bed rest, and I’m a jerk for not helping her.”
He Wanted His Brother To Take More Responsibility
Nevertheless, the man stood his ground. He said it was Jack’s baby so he should take the responsibility of helping Jill instead of him. In the end, Jill’s cousin started to come over more frequently to help Jill out.
She Wanted More Favors
The situation intensified after Jill gave birth to their child. With the baby’s arrival, the requests for favors increased, such as watching the child while Jill tended to her own needs. The man, who never felt comfortable around babies, declined these demands, leading to further clashes between him and Jill.
He Snapped At Her
One evening, Jill asked him to watch the baby while she went to the pharmacy for baby formula. He refused and, in a moment of frustration, warned her that if she left, he would consider it child abandonment and involve the police. Overwhelmed, Jill broke down emotionally, and upon Jack and the parents’ return, a heated argument ensued.
His Parents Were Very Angry
During the intense argument, Jack accused his younger brother of harboring animosity towards Jill and their child. The man explained, “I told him I refuse to bond because they will weaponize him against me. My parents told me enough is enough. That they can’t believe they raised such a selfish human being. And that either I help or I move out.”

The man felt that the second option, of moving out, was more appealing. Nevertheless, he was left questioning if he was in the wrong due to his family’s strong reaction to his behavior, so he turned to the internet for advice.
