A man wasn’t surprised when his paternal grandparents cut their own son out of their will and gave their house to their ex-daughter-in-law. But, now his deadbeat dad is mad and wants him and his brother to split their inheritance with their half-siblings.
His Dad Left Them
The man said, ‘My father left my mom when I was ten.’
He Was Cheating
When the man was ten years old, his father abandoned him and his brother to have a baby with his girlfriend. It was devastating for the entire family, particularly his mother, who had sacrificed so much to care for their kids, only to be cheated on and dumped.
Their Mother Was Incredible
His mother had been in college when she got pregnant with his older brother, so she never finished her education. From then on, she had been a stay-at-home mom and had no credentials to help her find work when her husband left. To make matters worse, the man’s father was awful, making the divorce as hard as possible.
They Moved in With His Grandparents
Fortunately, the man’s paternal grandparents were incredible. They always considered their ex-daughter-in-law a part of the family and were very disappointed in their son. They invited her and their grandkids to live with them and supported her while she returned to school. They even paid her fees, and when she offered to pay them back, they refused.
The Grandparents Died
The man had always admired his grandparents, who had basically disowned their son after how he’d treated his children and ex-wife. They only invited him over for holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, they maintained a good relationship with the children in his second family. Unfortunately, the man’s grandmother died from breast cancer, and his grandfather died a few years later from COVID-related complications.
His Dad Got $500
His grandparents, who had always been extremely generous, had only left $500 to their son. When the man heard that, he was surprised, as his grandparents had left him and his brother over $100,000 and gifted his half-siblings $10,000 each. What was even more incredible was that they gave his mother their house and some extra cash.
It Wasn’t Fair
The man and his brother were lucky enough to have well-established careers, so though the $100,000 was welcome, they didn’t financially need it. When they asked a lawyer why their father had only received $500, they were informed it was so he couldn’t protest the will. Their father couldn’t believe it! He felt it wasn’t fair.
They Grew Up Without a Dad
The man asked the lawyer why their half-siblings only receive $10,000 each and was told it was because their grandfather had said that the man and his brother had grown up without a father, unlike the half-siblings. So, it was only fair for the man and his brother to receive more. The man’s half-siblings didn’t think that this was a fair split of the inheritance, and things soon got awkward.
His Dad Was Angry
The man said, ‘My father approached my brother and me recently saying that his other kids are struggling with finances and that we should split everything with them.’
Should He Share His Money?
After his father approached him and his brother for the money, his father also asked the man’s mother to renounce her share of the inheritance. She just laughed in his face and asked him for the years of child support he owed her. Neither the man nor his brother wanted to share their inheritance but felt terrible for his dad’s kids’ financial situation. He asked the internet for advice.
