The man lives in a high rise building and pays for two parking spaces in the parking garage, costing $160 per month. He explained, “I have adjoining spots which is incredibly rare in my building.”
He Parks His Truck in His Double Parking Spot
The man owns a large truck, which he parks in the middle of his two parking spaces in order to leave room for people to open their doors in the spaces next to him.
His Neighbors Often Park Close to Him
He elaborated, “The parking spot next to me is on the end of the row on a corner, which admittedly can get quite tight at times”. The neighbors often park close to his side of the line to give other drivers more room. The man explains that this hasn’t bothered him and they have never spoken.
The Neighbors Had Been Petty
The man explained, “They have left items in my spot that I have had to move out of the way in order to park. They drive the wrong way in the parking garage to get to their spot 5 seconds quicker”. He added that he found their behavior strange, but he was not too bothered.
His Parking Spot Was Stolen
One night, the man drove into the garage and found that the neighbor had parked their car over the dividing line and into his parking space. He clarifies, “It is so egregiously over the line, there is no way this is a simple mistake.”
They Refused to Move Their Car
The man decided to get the building security involved. The security contacted the owner of the car and asked them to move it. The next day, the car had still not been moved.
He Parked Close to the Driver’s Side
An hour after the neighbor had been contacted, the man decided to park his car about 8 inches from the driver’s side mirror and posted on the building’s social media that he wanted the car moved. He explained, “I wanted to nip this in the bud, because I don’t want anyone else to feel entitled to my spot.”

The man weighed up his options and wanted to make sure that his parking spaces would not be taken again. He explained, “My building, per our bylaws, has the right to impose fines to residents who do not abide by the rules, and I want to ask them to charge the offender the cost of my rent for the parking spot per day they have used it.”

The man explains that he will tow the car as a last resort. He explained, “Once the car is moved, I will also start parking entirely in my spot directly next to them, regardless of if I will be parking two cars or not.”
