A person drove to work one day, arriving at their workplace early to locate a parking space. There were no designated parking spaces for the building, and this would soon cause a petty predicament. Here is what they had to say:
Preferred Parking Spot
The employee used to park at the front of the building, specifically at the very end. The choice was strategic, as the spot remained isolated from the most popular parking spaces, offering a place for the employee to smoke in solitude.
The Arrival of a New Employee
However, the parking dynamics shifted one day when a new employee joined the team a few months ago. This newcomer consistently parked next to the employee’s car, even though there were plenty of other spaces available.
Offended by Smoking
Whilst the employee thought this was strange, they did not own the parking spaces so it was fine with them. However, the new colleague began to take offense whenever the employee was taking a smoking break in the parking space, often rolling up her window with a disapproving gaze.
A Shift in Parking Strategy
As the summer sun started to blaze, the employee had another issue to contend with – a malfunctioning car air conditioner. This predicament prompted a shift in parking strategy – the side of the building became the new spot of choice as it offered shade, as well as a space for the employee to smoke away from their colleague.
Parking Wars Emerge
However, the same colleague decided to switch to the same spot, parking directly in front of the employee’s car. “At first I didn’t care, I get that the shade is useful during the summer”, the person wrote.
Parking Space Hogging
However, what did become bothersome was the colleague’s habit of hogging both parking spaces. The colleague began occupying their parking spot while reserving the other with her chair.
Double Parking in Defiance
Tensions reached a breaking point when the colleague began parking in the same spot that the employee had claimed for themselves, almost as if attempting to intentionally frustrate them.
Their Solution
The employee explained what they did next: “Out of spite I started showing up about 10 minutes early and double parking to take up both the spaces.”

The colleague became visibly frustrated by this double parking, barely being able to squeeze into their spot anymore. They would wait for the employee to head out on their lunch break in their car, and then repark their car, solving the problem temporarily.
A Clear Message
Seeking revenge for the double parking, the colleague now parked their car in a way that prevented the employee from having their car shaded. This was the final straw: “When her lunch ended and she went inside, I spite parked my car closer, about 2 inches away from her bumper.”
The Fallout
The next day, the colleague did not turn up for work. The employee wondered if this parking situation had finally gotten out of hand, thinking they may have taken things too far with their final aggressive parking solution. Whilst the colleague was being petty and unfair, it was just a parking space, and the employee feared that it had all been blown out of proportion.
Logging On
The employee headed online, seeking the opinion of internet dwellers. However, if they had been seeking validation for their actions, this was not what they received: “You’re both being petty and childish”, commented one individual. “Intentionally parking badly isn’t going to solve anything for either of you.”
Communication is Key
Everyone felt the situation had become terribly stubborn, particularly on the colleague’s side. “Geez, why don’t you just ask her?”, someone asked with confusion. ‘Just say, “Hey, is there some sort of parking issue we have between us? You seem to be following me around and purposely antagonizing me.”’
Grow Up
Most people agreed that if anyone was in the wrong here, it was the colleague. However, the general consensus was that both workers had to swallow their pride and talk like real adults. “I really just want to tell you both to grow up”, wrote one frustrated reader.
