A 26-year-old man was on a six-hour flight and was seated in a middle seat which was uncomfortable due to his tall stature. This proved to be equally uncomfortable for the woman he was sitting next to.
Discomfort And The Quest For Relief
About half an hour into the flight, the man’s discomfort grew unbearable, especially in his left knee. He yearned for some reprieve and relief, which he found by moving his knee slightly to the side into the open space between seats, level with the shared armrest. He admits that he may have encroached on his window seat neighbour’s space at some point.
A Sudden Accusation
Approximately two hours into the flight, the woman occupying the window seat called over a flight attendant and angrily complained about somebody ‘manspreading’. She used explicit language and made a reference that insinuated his actions were related to his genital comfort.
The Awful Realization
The man had a terrible realization: “With horror, I understood she was talking about me”, he explained. “I instantly retracted my leg in deep shame”. He was left shocked and deeply embarrassed by the confrontation.
Futile Attempts At Apology
Following the exchange with the flight attendant, the man made multiple attempts to apologize to the woman, but she adamantly ignored him and refused to acknowledge his presence. Instead, she engaged in texting on her phone throughout the entire flight.
Curiosity And Judgment
During the remaining flight, the man claims he couldn’t help but take sneaky peeks at her phone. He wrote: ‘She spent the last 3 hours of the flight watching videos about shaming obese people and texting someone she called Papi. I didn’t see all of it but a significant portion was definitely about me; she wrote “Men really do be too much sometimes” with a laughing emoji.’
Remainder Of The Flight
The man and the woman continued to ignore each other for the remainder of the flight, and the man tried to adjust his position to avoid further encroachment on her space. However, he couldn’t shake off his embarrassment and confusion about the woman’s aggressive approach instead of a simple request to move his knee.
The Internet’s Verdict
The man headed online to seek reassurance from others, but he was not met with sympathy: “Pay for extra legroom”, one commenter exclaimed. “Having some random guy pressing his leg against me is enough to make me get up from my bus or train seat because it creeps me out”.

Whilst some commenters sympathized with the man, this quickly changed when they read about him checking out the woman’s phone. One commenter sarcastically exploded: “And then there is the snooping.
