In early April, the woman moved to a new city for a job and met a woman who was her co-worker named Rachel. Rachel was the same age as the woman and was kind enough to invite her to her birthday dinner that weekend. It was the woman’s first invite and a chance to meet new people in her new city.

At Rachel’s birthday dinner, the woman met a group of women who were so kind, and they exchanged social media handles. They would go out every weekend, and the woman went to a few of their outings.
She Met a Guy
The woman also met a guy named Alex at her apartment’s gym when she first moved in. They went on two dates and they texted and called every day. She didn’t expect to meet someone so quickly, but she really liked him.
Mimosa Time
One day, the woman went out for brunch mimosas with her new friends, and they were discussing relationships and guys. She brought up Alex, and they all went silent. One of them spoke up and said that Alex was her ex, and they broke up last summer after a year and a half of dating. The woman said, “oh,” and it went quiet.
Awkward
After they left, Rachel texted the woman, saying that if she wanted to be cool with her and her friends, she couldn’t date Alex since it’s awkward as the friend wasn’t over him. The woman thought about it and when Alex invited her on another date and asked to be exclusive, it made her realize she didn’t want to end things.
She Hadn’t Even Spoken to the Girl
This was a new group of friends she had just met and hung out with a few times. Plus, she was only friends with Rachel and never spoken one-on-one to Rachel’s friend who dated Alex.
Fake Friends
When the woman told Rachel her decision, Rachel called her fake and said she chose a man over a true friend group, and her friend who dated Alex was devastated. At work, Rachel became very rude and didn’t speak to her, and the team noticed.
Supervisor Wants a Chat
Their supervisor called them both in for a meeting, asking what the issue was, and Rachel said that the woman chose to no longer want to be cordial with her.
She Told Her Everything
The woman told the supervisor the full story since Rachel made it seem like she did something horrible, and the supervisor was shocked. She said it’s petty and to drop it and that she expected better from Rachel.
She Should Have Been Vague
When they were leaving, Rachel called the woman an unprofessional jerk, saying that she shouldn’t have told the story and could have been vague. Rachel told the woman that she could lose her job since she’s only on probation in her new role. The woman felt terrible and didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want to lose her job or her new friends, but she also didn’t want to end things with Alex.
