The woman said, “I like to go for a run in the morning before I go to work. I usually set out around 5:00 AM so I can make sure to get at least 5 miles in at a time before having to get ready for work.”

Depending on the time of year, the woman explained that she either ran around sunrise or finished before it. As she ran past people’s houses, it would trigger the security lights of people’s houses in the neighborhood.
People Were Annoyed
Complaints started pouring in about the lights being triggered and dogs becoming agitated. Several people in the neighborhood with doorbell cameras even posted videos of the woman running by. She was easily identifiable because she wore a headlamp and flashers to make sure cars saw her.
She Apologized
All of this was being discussed on the Nextdoor app, and the woman decided to chime in to apologize for any inconvenience caused. However, she was met with hostility, and people suggested she change her route or show more respect.
She Didn’t Want To Change Her Routine
Some even advised her to run in the afternoon or evening instead. She responded by explaining that she couldn’t remember which house had what lights or dogs, and running in the morning was important to her well-being throughout the day. She pointed out that she didn’t complain about sprinklers that drenched her because they weren’t calibrated properly.

The backlash continued, and the woman received nasty notes and faced further criticism through videos and comments. Some suggested she get a gym membership to avoid these issues.

The woman explained, “I responded that I love to run in the morning because it makes me feel good throughout the day to which someone said, “Yeah try getting woken up by some jerk who won’t be neighborly enough to just go to the gym!”

However, the woman disliked running on a treadmill and preferred the solitude and beauty of running in the early morning. She saw no reason to pay for a gym membership when she could enjoy her runs in the peaceful darkness and witness the sunrise.
