Sophie and her co-workers went out for drinks on a Friday after work, and there were about 20 of them there, but when she heard something incredibly disturbing in the bathroom she had to report to HR. Here is what she had to say:
A Lovely Start
There was a lovely work get together one friday, everyone was having a great time. Sophie went to the bathroom, and she overheard a conversation of three guys in her department making a “hot list.”
Ranking Women
This involved ranking every woman in the department from first to last, leading her to feel upset and disturbed. These men were treating the women like objects, placing them on a list with various scores next to their names.
They Got Fired!
The next morning, Sophie reported the incident to HR, and they stated that they had a zero-tolerance policy for actions like this, which led to all three men being fired first thing in the morning, causing Sophie to feel terrible.
She Was Torn
Sophie hated the way they were talking about women, but she didn’t think they should be fired, and while she knew that they worked for a large company that took complaints like this seriously, she didn’t expect them to be fired.
Snitches Get Fired…
However, nobody knew that Sophie was the person who reported them, and she overheard people calling the person who reported them a “snitch,” which made her wonder if she should have just confronted them at the bar and told them how it made her feel instead, but at the time, she didn’t feel comfortable doing that.
The Whole Thing Was Offensive
Sophie felt bad because she had a fairly good relationship with two of the guys, and she was concerned that people would think she was upset because she was low on the list, but she tried to avoid making this the focus and was offended about the fact that they were making a list in the first place.
She Went Back to HR
However, the situation took a toxic turn when Sophie received numerous personal messages calling her ugly, fat, a psycho, etc…, causing her to realize that something needed to be done about this, and she decided to speak to HR about the messages she received.
