Divorced Brother-In-Law Invades Woman’s Bathroom Privacy, Her Husband Is Against Locks, but She Installs One After Another Invasion During a Shower, She Is Unsettled that He Takes His Brother’s Side

A woman becomes frustrated at her brother-in-law not respecting her privacy, but her husband won’t allow her to install bathroom locks. So she matters into her own hands. Here is what she had to say:

Her Brother-In-Law Moved In With Them

The woman said, “My husband’s brother moved in with us after his divorce a few weeks ago. The problem I have is that he started barging into the bathroom whenever I was using it. He never knocks or anything.”

She Found It Unsettling

Strangely, the woman explained, he only did this when she was in the bathroom and not when his own brother was using it. Feeling uneasy about the situation, she talked to her husband about it, but he brushed it off, dismissing her concerns as paranoia. She found the whole thing embarrassing and unsettling, as her brother-in-law would see her exposed in vulnerable moments.

The couple had previously decided not to have locks on any room in the house, including the bathroom. But her brother-in-law’s behavior was making the woman reconsider this. She told her husband, “I was really considering getting a lock, and I let my husband know that if his brother walks in on me in the bathroom one more time, then a lock will instantly be installed. He didn’t say anything.”

The breaking point came when her brother-in-law walked in on the woman while she was showering, knowing she would be in there but claiming he needed to use the toilet. This was the final straw for her, and she promptly installed the lock as she had warned.

She And Her Husband Argued

The woman explained what happened next, “My husband got home, saw it, and blew up on me, saying I violated an agreement that I was part of and went against his wishes of being uncomfortable with locks in the house. He demanded I remove it and promised and guaranteed that his brother wouldn’t walk in on me again, but I refused.”

The situation escalated further when the husband attempted to remove the lock himself, and the wife decided to leave for a few days to stay with her mother until the issue was resolved.

During her departure, she encountered her brother-in-law in the driveway, who, instead of trying to fix the situation, offered to drive her to her mother’s house, implying that her husband needed space “from her.” This deeply hurt the wife, and she spent the Uber ride over to her mother’s crying.

The woman explained, “The reason I feel offended is because my brother-in-law tends to be hurtful when he talks about others. I did all I could to win his approval, but he thinks less of me and thinks I’m childish, just like my husband says.”

Was The Woman In The Wrong?

In this challenging situation, the wife seeks advice on how to handle the ongoing tensions between her, her husband, and her brother-in-law. She thought it was reasonable to install a lock due to her brother-in-law’s behavior, but all it had done was cause more drama.

The Internet Responded

One person said, “The no locks thing was an agreement between you and your husband, when his brother moved in it wasn’t you and your husband anymore, and therefore the agreement comes to a hold. Tell your husband the lock can be removed as soon as his brother moves out.”

Another Person Commented

“I am really concerned for your safety. That’s not normal behavior from either of them! “Violated an agreement”??? That’s ridiculous! Your husband cares about controlling you. That’s all. And your brother-in-law is obviously up to no good and he needs to go! It’s not innocent, you’re not being paranoid. You are being gaslit by the sound of it, though! I don’t normally advocate for divorce. But maybe you should consider it. Your husband should be making YOU his number one priority! Period. Which means your comfort and safety in your own home!”
