Nineteen-year-old Jack had been friends with twenty-year-old Emily for a few years, and he was excited to attend her engagement party. A week before the party, Emily messaged Jack to invite him to the celebration.
Costume Party
Jack asked if there was a theme, but Emily said there wasn’t. Emily did however say it was a costume party. Jack thought long and hard about his costume and decided to go as the Corpse Bride. A funny twist as it was an engagement costume party!

When Jack arrived at Emily’s house, he was having a great time in his costume, and people were complementing him on his outfit. However, after ten minutes, Emily’s fiancé walked out in a black tuxedo and announced that it was actually their wedding. Jack was shocked and immediately went to Emily’s fiancé to ask if he should go home and change his outfit. The fiancé told him it was fine since he didn’t know it was a wedding.
Excuses, Excuses
Jack trusted the fiancé and followed everyone outside for the ceremony. After the wedding, the reception was held in Emily’s house, and Jack tried to talk to her and celebrate with her, but she kept making excuses not to talk to him. Jack assumed that Emily was just tired from the big day and wanted some alone time, so he didn’t bother her after that.

When Jack got home, he received angry text messages from Emily, who was cussing him out and telling him that he ruined her wedding. Jack was confused and asked what he did wrong. Emily only got angrier and told him that it was basic knowledge not to wear a wedding dress to a wedding.

Emily didn’t respond, but Jack received a text from her husband, who asked why he had told Emily that he said it was fine. Jack reminded him that he had said it was fine, but the husband blamed Jack and said that he should have changed his outfit anyway, and it was his fault that the two were now fighting over this.

Jack tried to apologize to Emily and told her that if he had known it was a wedding, he wouldn’t have worn the Corpse Bride costume. However, Emily and her husband blocked his number and blocked him on all social media, leaving Jack feeling confused and hurt.

“I didn’t mean to ruin her wedding,” Jack said. “I thought it was just a costume party. I feel terrible about what happened, but I don’t think it was entirely my fault. Despite his attempts to apologize, Jack couldn’t help but feel like he was being unfairly blamed for something that wasn’t entirely his fault. He also felt hurt that his friend had blocked him on everything without giving him a chance to explain himself.

“I just wish they would have given me the benefit of the doubt,” Jack said. “I’m not a mind reader, and I had no idea it was a wedding. I would have changed my outfit if I had known. I just hope that someday they can forgive me and we can be friends again.”
