“I got married three weeks ago and my day ended up spoiled by my family when an argument erupted during the reception that led to four people being kicked out/leaving and a whole bunch of family drama aired for everyone to hear.”
Their Uncle Lost His Wife
They explained they had two uncles and one aunt on their mother’s side. The oldest uncle, Liam, had been widowed for nearly 25 years after his wife passed away. Liam’s son, Ben, lost his mother at a young age and is now 32 years old.
Ben Didn’t Want His Dad To Start Dating Again
A year or two after Liam’s wife passed away, he briefly considered dating again and mentioned it to his siblings. However, he later changed his mind because his son, Ben, didn’t want him to date again as he was worried a new person would replace his mom.
Liam Respected His Wishes
This decision upset Liam’s siblings, who believed Liam shouldn’t give up dating for the sake of a child. Despite this, Liam hadn’t pursued any romantic relationships since his wife’s passing.

While there are times when Liam seems lonely, he remained close to Ben and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

However, their aunt and another uncle couldn’t let go of their anger towards Ben’s influence in stopping his dad from dating. Their resentment simmered under the surface, but then, it all exploded at the wedding.
They Confronted Him
During the wedding, while Ben and his wife were dancing, and Liam was enjoying time with his grandkids on the dance floor, their aunt and uncle confronted Ben, shouting at him and accusing him of being selfish.
And Things Got Out of Control
They explained what happened next, “In the space of about twenty minutes everyone in attendance knew an 8/9-year-old Ben had asked his dad not to date and that Liam listened and had never dated since his wife died. Security had to step in. Ben, his wife, their kids, and Liam all left and my aunt and uncle were kicked out.”
It Had Overshadowed The Wedding
“I was angry. The whole thing caused such a disruption and shifted the whole focus away from the party”, they explained. A few days later, they contacted their aunt, asking for an apology. But the Aunt couldn’t believe they would ask for one and felt they were not on her side.
They Didn’t Back Down
They later met up with their aunt and uncle again and told them they had no right to start a fight at their wedding and should feel ashamed of themselves. In response, their aunt and uncle argued that they should have supported them and let the confrontation take palace at the wedding.

Now, they are left questioning themselves. Should they have stood by their aunt and uncle, allowing their wedding to be overshadowed by unresolved family issues?
