The man explained, “I have five kids. My fourth child, Jack, recently turned sixteen. For my oldest three, after they got their driver’s licenses, I went and picked out a car with them. The cars had to be used but in good condition, and they cost around $10,000 each.”
The Grandparents Had a Favorite
Jack had always been the grandparents’ favorite, and during his sixteenth birthday party, they gave him a check for $5,000. This surprised and annoyed the man because the grandparents had only given a few hundred dollars to his other children on their sixteenth birthdays.
He Thought It Was Wrong
The man confronted the grandparents about the disparity after the party, and they explained they had recently sold some land and had cash on hand. Unhappy with their excuse, he argued with them, which ended up with them calling him an “entitled brat.”
He Had a Plan
When it was time to go car shopping, the man told Jack to bring along the check from the grandparents. Confused, Jack asked why, and the man explained it would cover half the cost of the car, and he would cover the other half.
Jack Thought It Was Unfair
The man explained what happened next: “Jack was upset because he thought the money was ‘just for him’ and that I paid for the cars for all his older siblings in their entirety, so I’m treating him unfairly.
