A man had been parking in a handicapped spot, despite not being disabled, so that he could save walking five minutes to get to his house. He was proud of his ‘hack’, but his neighbors weren’t so impressed. Here’s what happened:
It Was His Grandfather’s Car
The man said, ‘The car I have was passed on to me when my grandfather passed and happened to have a handicap placard.’
His Apartment Didn’t Have Sufficient Parking
The apartment complex the man lived in had garages for the tenants to park in, but they were extremely tight, and would not fit the man’s wide car. Therefore, he was always searching for available spaces near his building. It was so annoying!
He Was Hardly Ever Home
What made it worse was the fact that he was always searching for parking at the worst times due to his busy schedule. He worked and had recently started taking night classes, which meant he returned home at midnight and left the house again at 6am.
By midnight, people had already parked their cars and gone to bed, meaning he had no spaces left and no one would be moving anytime soon.
The Handicapped Spots Were Always Available
That’s when the man noticed the handicapped spots. He realized that they were always available and no one used them. There were four places, and they were right next to his building. This presented him with an opportunity!
He’d Spied On Them For A Month
The man had a handicapped plate on his car from when his grandpa owned it, so he knew he wouldn’t get caught if he used the spaces. No one could prove he wasn’t disabled. But he watched the spots for a month before taking the risk. To his luck, they remained empty!
It Was Only Fair
The man said, ‘So I decided that since I get home at 12 am and I’m gone by 6 am, that I would use the placard and park in those spots.’
His Neighbors Were Disgusted
He’d finally found a solution to his parking problem. The man felt pleased with himself. When he went for tea at his neighbor’s house, he told them about his little hack and was surprised at their response. They were not impressed and called him inconsiderate and rude for using the spot when he wasn’t disabled.
