Hectic School Parking
The source of the man’s parking woes was a high school, situated near his house. Parents would often drive around his street looking for parking spaces when dropping off and picking up their children from school, but parking was limited.
Stealing His Spot
This high-school parking conundrum soon directly impacted him, despite him not having kids. “I noticed that people have started using the parking space on the side of my house to park while they pick up their kids”, he lamented.
An Entitled Attitude
The man explained the reasons for his frustrations: “It’s honestly not a huge inconvenience for me – I don’t even own a car and it’s not like it’s all the time. However, I do use the spot for visitors, and I don’t particularly like the idea of people just assuming they can use my space without asking”
Dumping Their Trash
In addition to this entitled attitude, the parking offenders took further liberties. It appeared that they were using the parking spot as a trashcan, defacing the outside of his house with litter.
Confronting the Situation
The situation reached a tipping point when one day, two women parked in the man’s space within 10 minutes. “I waited until they came back with their kids and let them know, very calmly, that this is private property and they couldn’t park here”, he recounted.
Approved by the Previous Resident
However, the women did not take his response seriously. They both informed him that his property’s previous tenants had always given them permission to park there, so they felt that he should do the same.

The man did not appreciate this assumptious response. “I’m really sorry but I’m expecting someone to visit soon and they’ll need to use the space,” the man explained, before returning to his house.

As the man retreated back indoors, he couldn’t help but overhear the women’s conversation. The women resorted to discussing the man with disdain, making comments such as “new tenant, new attitude.”
Man’s Dilemma
Reflecting on the incident, the man found himself frustrated. He paid rent for the parking space and therefore felt entitled to decide who could use it, even when it remained vacant. The man also pointed out that free street parking was ample a few streets down, which would only require the parents to walk a couple of extra minutes.
Perhaps He Was Wrong
However, the man wasn’t completely confident in his attitude. He recognized that the parents using his space wasn’t actually causing him any inconvenience, due to his lack of a car. His attitude was simply based on the entitlement that the parents had, which he recognized could be seen as petty.

Battling with the idea that he may be causing the parents unnecessary inconvenience, the man headed online to gauge the public’s opinion, posting his conundrum on a messageboard. Thankfully, they came to defend him. “You pay for the parking space yet they have the audacity to feel entitled to use and litter it ”, one reader defended. “You’re totally fair to be complaining.”

Amusingly, many readers agreed that the man should start a wheel-clamping side hustle. “Get yourself a wheel clamp and put up a residents’ only sign, stating that all others will be clamped”, someone suggested. “You can charge what you like to remove the clamp, so you could turn this into a nice little business.”
