Later that evening, a text message lit up on the man’s phone screen, and it was from his ex. The man and his ex-partner had not been in contact for three months, so the message came as a surprise.
The Message
The man explained: “They ask why I parked where I did (it is their parking lot for where they work). I had no idea that was the building they worked at”.
Just Dropping Off A File
The man explained that he had just been dropping off a file. “They thought I might have been stalking’, he recounted. “I had merely been going about my day, for my job”.
No Malicious Intent
Despite resistance, the man maintained that he had no ulterior motives in mind when he parked there. It was merely a matter of convenience in the course of his work-related duties.
Unreasonable Restrictions
The man explained that this was not the first time something like this had happened. After the breakup, which had been initiated by the ex, he was explicitly told not to bring dates to a coffee shop where they had both been going for years.
Respecting Wishes
Despite these unexpected and somewhat unreasonable requests, the man assured their ex that they would respect their wishes.
A Sense of Unfairness
However, the man still couldn’t shake off the feeling of unfairness that lingered in the air. “I believe it is absolutely unreasonable to tell me where I am allowed to go in my hometown”, he wrote.
Left In A Conundrum
The man was left conflicted. On one side, he felt that it was his right to park wherever he needed, regardless of whether it was in the proximity of his ex. However, he also wished to respect her boundaries and didn’t want to come across as creepy.
Asking Online
The man wondered what he should do, so he headed online, seeking the opinion of internet strangers. To his relief, everyone was quick to defend him: “You broke up… it’s none of your ex’s business where you park, bring your dates in a public place”, one person wrote.
Ignore Her
