A man’s father-in-law who had temporarily moved in with them insisted on blaring the TV late at night, waking everyone up, he came up with a plan that angered him. Here is what he had to say:
They Moved In With Them
The man explained, “I live with my wife. We have two kids, a boy and a girl aged eight and six respectively. My wife’s parents are staying with us temporarily as their home is having some serious repairs after a freak accident. It wasn’t their fault and luckily they had insurance. The repairs should be completed in two months from now.”
He Thought It Would Be Fine
Although the man didn’t get along well with his father-in-law, he agreed to let them stay. He thought it would be manageable, especially since they were only staying for two months. However, the experience ended up being far more challenging than he could have expected.
But Problems Started Quickly
The man’s mother-in-law was unemployed, and his father-in-law worked late shifts until around 11 pm. When he returned home, the two of them watched YouTube videos in the living room. The problem, however, was that they played music on a loud volume through their speaker system!
It Wasn’t Thoughtful
The noise woke them, which was frustrating enough, but it also woke their kids up. The children needed rest for school the next day, and the man needed to get up early to take them and then go to work himself.
He Spoke To Them
The man tried talking to his in-laws about the loud noise, explaining it was waking them and their kids up. He told them to keep it down after the kid’s bedtime at 8:30 pm. He didn’t expect complete silence, but he felt this was a reasonable request and that the TV didn’t need to be blaring loud at night.
They Refused To Turn It Down
However, he was surprised by their response. He explained, “My father-in-law argued with me and said that he doesn’t finish work til 11 pm, so I’m basically expecting him to not do the things he enjoys after work. I told him he can do it before work or on his days off. He complained to my wife who’s now taking his side and saying that the kids need to learn how to sleep through “a bit of everyday noise”.”
He Hatched A Plan
But his wife worked overnight shifts, so she didn’t hear the noise, and how loud it truly was, and the man was frustrated that she took his side. So, the man decided to take matters into his own hands to stop their sleep being disrupted by his inconsiderate in-laws.
But It Caused Conflict
So, he decided to set parental controls on the TV which meant it couldn’t be used between 8:30 pm and 6:00 am, this way it wouldn’t affect his wife who would come home around 6:20 am. The man was the only one who knew the password. This led to conflict with his inlaws.
Was The Man In The Wrong?
His father-in-law accused him of being childish and kept pestering him for the password, but the man refused to give it to him. However, now his wife is upset with him for upsetting her father! Nevertheless, the man thought he wasn’t in the wrong as his in-laws were guests in their home and they should respect his rules.
