His Wife’s Dad Doesn’t Respect Him
The 36-year-old man openly acknowledged that he wasn’t the “handy” type. He could manage basic tasks like assembling IKEA furniture and following YouTube tutorials for minor fixes, but he didn’t possess the skills his 60-year-old father-in-law considered worthwhile.
But the Dad Is Very Helpful
The man admitted, “I have to give him the credit that he’s due and say that he’s knowledgeable about plumbing, joinery, and electrics. He has often helped my wife and me with matters in our home (a leaky pipe, some plastering work, etc.), and we have always been grateful and appreciative.”
The Man Is Good with Computers
In contrast, the man excelled in IT and worked in this field. Although his FIL often struggled with technology, the man never made a fuss about helping him.
The Dad Wasn’t Nice About It
However, his FIL frequently mocked his lack of practical home-repair skills, even in front of family and friends. The younger man usually bit his tongue and refrained from retaliating.
They Needed Help with A Project
Things changed when the man and his wife bought their daughter a large climbing frame/swing set for her birthday. They managed to assemble most of it but needed help with the final steps, like anchoring it safely to the ground.
The Dad Had Some Things to Say
“My brother happened to stop by to visit, so he helped, but my wife also phoned her dad to come and help. We got the job done, but again, the commentary continued, which was especially insulting considering my brother was there,” he said.
The Dad Needed His Help Now
The following day, the man, his wife, and several other family members visited his FIL’s house. The FIL asked him to fix his virus-infected laptop. As the man worked on the computer, he complained about how long it was taking and impatiently questioned the cause of the virus.
The Computer Held Some Secrets
The man related, “A peruse of his internet history revealed a LOT of adult content. Nothing particularly embarrassing, but probably information that he wouldn’t have wanted sharing.”
He Let It Slip
Without thinking, he blurted out to everyone that these adult sites often contained viruses and offered to provide a membership to his antivirus account.

The tension in the room was palpable, and the man said, “My FIL’s wife looked super angry, and my sister-in-law stifled a laugh. We left shortly after that, but on the way out, we heard her parents arguing in their house.”
