When the man was 10 years- old, his father remarried, and they all moved in together. His new stepmom had one child, a girl called Ellie, who was a year younger than the man, and despite them growing up together, he never accepted her as his sister.
Then His Grandmother Passed
When the man turned 18, his maternal grandmother passed away. Of course, he was devastated. However, after she passed, he found out that she had been saving money for him for years. When his aunt broke the news, he was delighted.
Her Daughter Knew About The Money
His Grandmother had only told his aunt about the small fortune. Apparently, she had felt bad that he had grown up without a mother and wanted to make sure he had money to pursue his dreams.
It Was A Small Fortune
It truly was life-changing. The man’s grandmother had saved enough for the man to pay for years of college and be left without debt. But, the man decided to attend community college instead so he could be near his aunt and cousins.
She Couldn’t Afford An Education
Since the man was not going to be paying a huge amount for his education, he didn’t know what to do with the money. That’s when his sister asked him for a massive favor. She couldn’t afford to pay for college…
She Should Have Split It In The First Place
When his sister asked him to use his money to pay for her education, he was annoyed. Not only that but his stepmother and dad began to pressure him to at least split the inheritance, claiming it was the fair thing to do. They said that his grandmother should have split the money in the first place, as his sister had been a part of the family for years.
That’s When He Refused
But his grandmother had nothing to do with his sister. Why should he split his inheritance when it was gifted to him because his mother died when he was a baby? His dad asked him if he would be willing to part with any of his money, and he said no. When his sister found out, she flipped.
It Was Awkward
The man said, ‘Ellie flipped and told me I’m supposed to be her brother and stop any favoritism.’
Should He Share?
But why was it his responsibility to make things fair in their eyes? He had never seen his stepsister as a real sister, so he didn’t want to share. After several weeks of harassment, his family started making him uncomfortable, so the man moved in with his aunt to escape. He didn’t know if he was in the wrong, so he turned to the internet for advice.
