A man recounts a 20-year-old story when he arrived home to find his neighbor’s friends had all parked in his family’s private parking lot. He had put up signs warning it was private land, but that had made little difference – so he decided to take revenge, in the most creative, and mischievous way possible! Here’s what he had to say:
His Family Owned The Apartment Buildings
The man explained, “This happened around 20 years ago. Our family-owned two apartment buildings, three units each. We lived in two of them, rented out the other four. There’s nothing but these “three flats” lining both sides of the road for about a mile. Not all have parking. On the side streets are houses and very little street parking. We had more land than most of these units – since it was also our home. So we had parking for around 16 cars. Everything was fine for literally decades.”
The Man Was Frustrated
However, one day, cars belonging to non-tenants started appearing in their parking lot. The man was frustrated and one day he blocked a car in, however, the owner of the car drove through their bushes to get out of the parking lot!
He Put Up Signs To Deter People Parking
The man accepted the police couldn’t do much, so he contacted a tow company to put up signs. From then on, they would be able to call the tow company to remove unauthorized cars, and the signs seemed effective in deterring people from parking there.
But They Had Ignored The Signs
Unfortunately, on New Year’s Eve one year, when the man returned home, every parking space was occupied, and even cars on the street blocked others. The man was enraged, and he explained, “I call the tow company – they can’t do anything for a few hours because they are so busy.”
He Took His Revenge
A plan formulated in the man’s mind, he went and got his hoses and lawn sprinklers, and ran hot water from the laundry room faucet to prevent them from freezing. He spent nearly five hours moving the sprinklers to make sure they covered every car and inch of the parking lot. He even made sure to spray water into the locks, window seals, and grills of the cars!
The Parkers Were Furious
It wasn’t long until the water froze, and the man, satisfied with his plan, went to bed. However, at 4 am he was awoken by furious banging on his door and the incessant ringing of doorbells. The man explained what happened next, “We just smiled and called the cops. Waited until they arrived and went outside.”
He Discovered Who Had Told Them To Park There
When the cops arrived, they were “holding back laughter” the man explained. It turned out that the people had been told to park there by their friend who owned an apartment in a different building to the man.
Revenge Was Sweet
The man discovered this had been the same person who had previously parked in his lot and driven over their bushes! The man felt even more satisfied he had successfully taken revenge on this neighbor.
He Explained To Everyone
He calmly explained to the individuals outside, and the police, that they weren’t allowed to park there, and he pointed to the tow signs. In their town, the police were also able to issue tickets to cars parked on private property with the owner’s permission.
The Perfect Plan
In the end, the police issued tickets to the cars parked illegally, and because they were encased in ice, they also had to be towed! Reflecting back, the man wished he had recorded evidence of the incident!
