Sarah, a hardworking mother of two, faces a dilemma when her husband John, who is irresponsible with time, asks her to pack his bag for a business trip because he was playing games all night.
Irresponsible Husband
Meet Sarah (35), a hardworking mother of two, and her husband, John (38), who travels for work every few months. John is notorious for being irresponsible with time and counting on others to do things for him, often using the “I’m tired” excuse. Despite his lack of responsibility, John is the breadwinner of the family.
He Played Games All Night
One day, John had a business trip and the day of the trip, he saw Sarah carrying the laundry basket and asked her to pack his bag. Sarah asked why he didn’t do it the night before, and John replied that he was up all night playing Fortnite.
She Refused to Pack
Sarah then asked why he couldn’t pack now, and John replied that he had to catch up with the boys before leaving the country. Sarah refused to pack his bag for him, citing her busy schedule with laundry, cooking, and helping the kids with homework.
She Stood Firm
John begged Sarah to pack his bag, but she refused, suggesting that he stay home and pack his own bag while helping around the house until it was time for his trip. John wasn’t happy with this suggestion and complained about missing his friends and wanting to say goodbye to them before leaving. Sarah stood firm and said no.
He Left the House
Suddenly, John rushed out of the house, leaving Sarah wondering where he went. Hours later, John returned home, panicking and asking why his bag wasn’t packed and ready yet. Sarah reminded him that she refused to pack his bag and that he shouldn’t have assumed that she would do it for him. John got upset and started packing his bag in a frenzy, eventually leaving for his trip.
He Missed the Flight
However, things didn’t go as planned for John. He missed his flight, and when Sarah asked why he couldn’t be on the next flight, John explained that he was required to pay for the other flight or not go since he missed the flight that the company was paying for. John refused to pay and decided not to go, blaming Sarah for his missed trip.
She Turns to the Internet
Sarah was left feeling that she was in the wrong for not helping John to pack his case so that he didn’t miss his flight and have to pay for another out of his own pocket. But she also was glad to have stood firm because she does so many other jobs within the family. She decides to head on the internet to seek advice and see whether what she did made sense to others. She posted her story on a popular internet forum website and here were some responses:

Except we’re dealing here with a fully grown adult who chose to play fortnite all night instead of packing, then decided going to see ‘his boys’ (which to my surprise/horror were not his sons) was more important that packing. What makes you think this overgrown toddler was going to act in a professional manner? Nah, much better than to just give up and throw a tantrum at his mummy-wife.

“You taking a shower? Let me wash you. We can’t have you getting tired, after all, you’re the breadwinner.”

“Going to the toilet? I’ll hold the paper till you finish so I can wipe you. Gotta make sure the breadwinner is clean and rested.””
