She Planned On Buying A House With Her Inheritance, But Now Her Sister Is Demanding A Share Of The Money

A woman in her early 30s had spent years caring for her dying father despite her sister being older and living right next door. Now that he’s dead, she’s received all his money as an inheritance, and her sister demands that she share. But her sister’s drug addiction meant she couldn’t be trusted with money.

The woman was only 30 years old but had watched her older sister struggle all her life with substance abuse. Despite having a five-year-old daughter, her sister had been baker acted (involuntarily confined for a mental health exam) 20 times since she turned 18, and had died twice. Thankfully, medical professionals had been able to bring her back to life. Her family was constantly worried.

Their Dad Was Always There for Her

Fortunately, the women had a fantastic father. He was always there to bail his eldest daughter out of jail and even paid her rent. Due to her addiction, holding down a job had been very hard for her. Thank goodness for their dad.

However, the father had been battling with cancer for over a decade. Despite living in the same apartment complex as his eldest daughter, whenever he needed help, she wasn’t there to care for him. Because of this, the woman had to make a tough decision that affected her job and relationship.

After her sister refused to help her dad, the woman moved across the city three months before her wedding to help her dad when he started chemo. He needed a lot of extra help, which affected her life for three years. Because of this, she lost two jobs as she had to take time off to look after him. Her sister did absolutely nothing and continued taking money from their dying father.

The woman resented her sister, not only because she had left the woman to care for their father, but she also had to make all the medical decisions concerning his life. She felt so alone. But he couldn’t trust his oldest daughter… He’d told the woman that he thought her sister would try to kill him for the inheritance, given the chance.

Her Dad Passed Away

The moment their father passed away in his apartment, the woman invited her sister to come up and say her goodbyes. It was an extremely emotional time, but the woman was shocked by how her sister acted. The undertakers had not even taken him to the funeral home, and her sister demanded she be allowed to open his will.

It Was Disgusting

Not only that, but the woman’s sister was looking around her father’s apartment and picking out plenty of items that she wanted to claim. She told her sister she needed money because her father had agreed to pay for her bachelor’s degree. Apparently, she needed 2K immediately. Within 24 hours, that amount somehow rose to 3k, and the woman was at the end of her tether.

The woman said, ‘After I finally read the will (I’m the executor of the estate), we learned that Dad left everything to me.’

Should She Share Her Money?

When her sister heard, she was furious. Everything had been left to the woman, except for a trust fund for her sister’s daughter that she couldn’t touch until she was 21. The sister had no access to this money and demanded that the woman split her inheritance. However the father had left specific instructions to the woman; he wanted her to use the money to buy a house with her husband and pay off her debts. The woman, understanding why her sister was hurt but still wanting to honor her father’s wishes, was conflicted. She asked the internet for advice.

Another commented, ‘If you’re feeling generous, set aside something sentimental of his for her if she is ever in a better place emotionally.’
