A young woman was asked to attend her father’s wedding in Florida, but since her university had a strict attendance policy, she decided she wouldn’t be going. Shortly after, her stepmother-in-law-to-be started ignoring her and posting passive-aggressive things on Facebook.
She Was From the UK

She Wasn’t Going to Her Own Father’s Wedding
She had just started a university course with an immensely strict attendance policy. Being absent for even two weeks meant automatic withdrawal. Therefore, taking time off to fly from the UK to Florida to be at the wedding presented a major challenge for her. It was time to make a tough decision. The woman felt bad, but she had to put her studies first. She sat her father down and let him know that she wouldn’t be at his wedding due to her exams and coursework. But not only that, she wouldn’t be able to be one of his fiancée’s bridesmaids.
Her Dad Was Lovely
The conversation had been civil, and her father said that she was making a mature decision, but immediately, her soon-to-be stepmother started acting strangely towards her. The stepmother ignored her whenever she entered a room. It was weird, especially as the young woman paid rent and for food. Although, the step-mother did keep cooking her meals.
She Was Posting About Her on Facebook
Roughly a year after the woman told her father she would not attend the wedding, her stepmother was still acting strangely. She didn’t know why, but things got really bad when she left the bathroom one day. She had returned from university, and the stepmother slammed the bathroom door and yelled something like, “Ugh, what disgusting humans.” Moments later, the stepmother posted on Facebook, “I have to live with some of the most disgusting people ever… I wish it was just me and my husband”.
It Was Awful
The woman said, ‘I packed a bag, called my aunt, and asked if I could come stay for a couple days.’
She Was a Nightmare
She couldn’t believe it. Outraged, she fled to her aunts, texting her father on the way and telling him what his fiancée had done. She knew it was about her, seeing as she was the only other person home when it happened. When he replied, asking her to come home, she said she would be at her aunt’s till Sunday night, unwilling to even look at her soon-to-be stepmother till then.
Her Stepmother Lied
The woman received a text from her dad saying he had spoken to his fiancée. Apparently, the Facebook post hadn’t been about her but her colleagues at work, however she was sorry. Obviously, this was a lie. Why would she even bother apologizing if that were true? Her father begged the young woman to come home and smooth things out with his fiancée, but she refused and went on with her life, returning home that Sunday. More time passed, and the woman and her stepmother-to-be still didn’t talk, but when the woman told her boss and friend about the situation, she was convinced that it was time to bury the hatchet for her father’s sake.
She Extended an Olive Branch
The woman said, ‘Her birthday was coming up, so I decided to buy her a present.’
Her Stepmother Completely Ignored Her
She bought a card and gift that she knew her stepmother would like and hatched a plan. On her birthday, the woman walked up to her stepmother while she was working at her desk and said, ‘Happy Birthday, I have a present for you.’ But she didn’t even turn around! Instead, the stepmother sat staring at her desk and said, ‘Just leave it there,’ which infuriated the woman. She left the present on the table and left. The young woman had done all she could do at this point. She had no idea why her stepmother was mad at her except for the fact she wasn’t coming to the wedding. But that was so petty! After all, she was 35 years old, and the young woman was 20. She decided she would not make an effort like that again.
Was it Her Fault?
The woman felt extremely annoyed at her soon-to-be stepmother. So what if she couldn’t come to the wedding? She had an excellent reason, which her father accepted. Not coming to the wedding did not mean she disapproved of the union. She didn’t know what to do, so she took to the Internet for advice.
