A woman had embarked on a hefty seven-hour train journey with her two young children. She was hoping for a relaxing journey, yet she had chosen seats that were clearly marked as reserved, so it would only be a matter of time until this decision caused drama.
The Journey’s Purpose
The woman explained why she and her children were embarking on such a long journey: “I was traveling down to visit my Uncle for New Year’s Eve. I had to take the train with my two young kids and it was a pretty last-minute booking”.
Choosing Reserved Seats Early on
With the train still relatively empty and no seats reserved, the woman made a controversial decision. “My kids were really tired and everything was a bit overwhelming, so I didn’t see a problem with sitting in some seats that were marked as reserved”, she recounted.
A Peaceful Journey
During the trip, the family enjoyed some much-needed rest and refreshments. It was a chance for the children to relax, considering the long day they had ahead.
Trouble Was Brewing
Naturally, trouble soon arose. “People started looking for their seats, so I stayed quiet and hoped their seats weren’t ours”, she explained. “However, a man couldn’t find his and kept asking to check people’s seat numbers. I thought it was rude when he could have just sat in another seat.”
Confrontation Over Reserved Seats
As fate would have it, the woman was using the man’s reserved seat. “My daughter was sitting in his seat, and he aggressively confronted her”, she recounted. “I was furious that he’d do that, rather than ask me politely. She’s seven and was obviously with me.”
Protecting Her Child
The woman decided to intervene and told her daughter to stay where she was, as there were no other seats nearby where she could keep an eye on her. She suggested that he sit somewhere else, as whilst there were no clusters of seats available, there were plenty of free singles.

The man started to grumble and wandered off, with the woman assuming that she had won. However, he soon returned with a staff member and started to shout about the alleged theft of his reserved seats.
Defending Her Actions
Upon having her tickets checked, the woman explained that she and her children were tired and hadn’t anticipated any issues with sitting in the reserved seats when the train was still relatively empty. To her relief, this excuse was accepted by the staff member, and the man was asked to find another seat.
Consequences of His Anger
In reaction to this demand, the man continued to raise his voice, insisting that the woman’s family should be removed from the train. “Thankfully, HE was told to get off the train at the next stop as he wasn’t welcome on the service”, the woman beamed.
