A woman recently asked for some advice after she took her wife’s nephew for a day out, but when the father found out where it caused a family feud. Here’s what happened.
There Was an Emergency
A woman’s brother-in-law asked her and her wife (the man’s sister) to take care of his 5-year-old son for a couple of days. His mother-in-law had suffered a stroke, and he and his wife needed to go and be with her.
They Said it Was Fine
Of course, being family and fairly close, the couple said it wouldn’t be a problem at all.
She Got the Flu
Unfortunately, on the very first day, the woman’s wife came down with the flu, and by the time the woman got home from work, her wife was absolutely exhausted.
She Needed Some Rest
The woman said, “My wife told me that entertaining her nephew had been hard for her and asked me to keep him busy the next day so she could get some rest.”
They Went to a Ranch
To help out, the woman took the day off work and took her nephew to a ranch about 30 minutes away. The woman went horseback riding there once a week or so, so she knew it well.
It Seemed Like the Perfect Place to Go
She thought the boy would like it because he loves animals – it seemed like the ideal place to go to keep a kid occupied for a few hours.
They Had a Great Time
The woman said, “We both enjoyed the trip, he fed the horses and got the chance to pet them.” She decided not to let him ride any of the horses for safety’s sake, but that didn’t seem to matter. They enjoyed being with the animals, they went for a walk, had lunch, and even picked out a gift for the woman’s wife to take home with them.
His Father Was Angry
Thinking nothing of it, the woman and her wife told the boy’s father all about the fun day he’d had, but the man got angry.
He Said They Shouldn’t Have Gone Out
The woman said, “He said we shouldn’t have taken the kid out, especially without my wife being there.” He was worried that there might have been an accident or that the kid could have gotten sick from being with the horses.
Her Wife Told Him to Calm Down
Surprised at her brother’s reaction, the woman’s wife told him to calm down – nothing had happened, and the boy had been perfectly safe. In fact, he had a great day.
The Man Refused to Listen
Rather than listening, the man called a friend of his to go and pick the boy up – he’d stay with the friend until it was time to go home, not the woman and her wife.
