He Planned to Meet an Old Friend
He explained, “I am currently on holiday in my country of birth. I suggested an old friend of mine join me to get dinner. He asked me whether he could bring 3 women and a man he is cool with, which I agreed to.”
They Went Out for Dinner
The man had suggested the restaurant and everyone was happy with the choice. He added, “We got there and everyone started ordering and ordering; cocktails, lobster, sushi… everything was fine, we were having a laugh.”
The Bill Came to $813
At the end of the meal, the bill came to 770€. The man suggested that they split the bill evenly and his friend agreed. The other man in the group told them that he could only afford 25€ despite eating over 100€ worth of food.
They Suggested That He Should Cover the Bill
He explained, “Two of the women were on their phones, silent and disengaged, and the other woman had the audacity to openly and confidently suggest I be a gentleman and cover the bill.”
She Assumed He Was Well Off
She stated that from his social media, he appeared to have a lot of money. He disagreed, saying, “All I have on my IG are pics of holidays and business-related stuff. No fast cars or any of that.”
He Refused to Foot the Bill
The man explained, “I told them that I didn’t know them and that this was not a date. She said that they didn’t expect to have to pay”. His friend agreed with him, saying that he isn’t dating any of them either and that he just met them at work.
He Was Shocked by Their Entitlement
He asked his friend why they would think that he would pay for the meal and he didn’t know, expressing that they usually paid for their own things. The man asked his friend to deal with the situation as he had been the one to invite them.
They Argued Over the Cost
The group went back and forth, complaining that the meal was too expensive and that it wasn’t fair. The man stated, “It was fair when they were ordering like they had a money fountain clearly, but not when it was time to pay.”
He Decided to Cover His Own Dinner
Although he was initially going to split the bill evenly, he decided to cover his own costs of 52€ and go home. He added, “I was going home on my own, which seemed to offend them even more than splitting the bill.”
They Couldn’t Pay
The man went over to the waiter and told him that they would each be paying for their own meal. He explained, “Aside from my friend, none of them had enough for the bill, or so they said.”
He Gave the Waiter a Big Tip
He felt bad that they were all figuring out how to pay but decided that he wouldn’t help them. He added, “I ended up being petty and giving a big tip to the waiter in front of them.”

The man shared his opinion, “Had they not been entitled about it and said it before agreeing to come, I would have at least considered it. But not like this.”
