Tragedy and Abandonment
Growing up as the oldest biological child of a single mother the woman’s childhood was marked by tragedy and abandonment. When she was five, her father passed away, and her mother married her stepfather three years later.
A Terrible Stepfather
However, when she was nine, her stepfather no longer wanted her to live with them, and she was sent away to live with her father’s sister, who lived in another state. Her aunt and uncle were low-income earners who already had two children of their own, but they treated her like one of their own and continued to let her stay despite the loss of the financial support from her mother and stepfather.
How the Other Half Live
During her stay with her aunt and uncle, the woman rarely saw her mother, and she only saw her five times between the ages of nine and 18. Her mother went on to have three more children with her stepfather, and the woman would stalk them on social media to see what their life was like. It was a polar opposite life from hers, with expensive vacations, a massive house, and the latest gadgets.
A Wonderful Act of Kindness
Despite the challenges she faced growing up, the woman went to college and got married at the age of 23. She and her husband now own their own home, have several profitable investments, and work high-paying jobs, putting them in a financially stable position. She and her cousins, who also grew up with her aunt and uncle, contributed to help her aunt and uncle purchase their own home last year.
Gambling Addiction
Recently, her mother showed up at her aunt’s house, begging for financial help. The woman’s stepfather had suffered from a gambling addiction a few years ago and lost all of their savings, and with COVID, he lost his job, leaving them unable to keep their house without financial help.
She Didn’t Have Anything to Give
Her aunt explained that she didn’t have any money to help her, and when her mother demanded to know how she could afford her new house if she had no money, she explained what the woman and her cousins had done. Her mother then asked for her number.
She Begged the Woman for Help
When her mother called her and explained the situation, the woman told her that she couldn’t help. Her mother kept begging her and claimed that her siblings would be made homeless if she didn’t help them. The woman told her that maybe she should sell some of their fancy stuff or that they could all get jobs, just like her cousins and she had to. She hung up before her mother could reply.
They’re Harassing Everyone
Since then, she has been receiving message after message from her mother, stepfather, and half-siblings, all begging for her help. The woman has never spoken to her half-siblings in her life, and they have begun harassing her husband and sister-in-law. They have even reached out to her aunt and cousins multiple times, trying to convince them to convince her to change her mind.
They Threw Her Away
The woman is angry with them all. They threw her away and now that they need something, they come crawling back? But the guilt is also starting to set in, and she doesn’t know if she’s being a jerk. She wonders if she should help them after all, despite the way they treated her in the past.
