He Had A Good Job
The man said, “So there’s not too much to say, I guess I’m more curious about others’ opinions on this. I am an approximate 22.5-year-old man, and I recently snagged a really, really good job.”
He Had No Complaints
The role was a corporate-level administrator job in the trucking industry. The man found the job quite enjoyable and had no complaints two months into it.
It Was A Diverse Workplace
The man explained that the workplace consisted of a diverse staff of professional coworkers who generally pulled their weight. Therefore, he was happy in his role and with the people he worked with, although something happened that made him start questioning things.
Something Caught His Eye
One evening, as he was walking through the parking lot, he noticed something that caught his eye. He said, “I was looking at the sunset through the chain link fence. As my eyes darted around, I happened to notice a pink metal plate bolted onto the fence, I thought to myself, Woah, what’s that, and how did I not notice it before?”
He Was Surprised
Curious, he read the sign and was surprised to see the words, “FEMALE EMPLOYEE PARKING SPACE ONLY!” accompanied by a symbol commonly seen in women’s public bathrooms.
He Disagreed With It
The man said, “Now, let me clarify that I am not “Irate” or “fuming” about it, but I don’t really buy into the whole chivalry, white knighting culture that the men of previous generations upheld.”
He Got His Fiancee’s Opinion
When he got home later that evening, he discussed it with his fiancée, who told him she thought the sign was “stupid”. The man explained he had wanted a female opinion on the subject, and her strong views on it solidified his own opinion that it was unnecessary.
He Disagreed With The Sign
He explained that “I’m just coming from the territory of you can show that you are a diverse company dedicated to equality without making tedious or unimportant decisions like special parking.”
